if i could see your face
maybe i would know your lies
but distance seperates us
words are nothing
without actions to prove them.

you pledge your friendship
swear to remembrance
yet as the dial tone sounds
all promises fade.

i wish i knew
what you could be feeling
what you might be thinking
would it hurt me more
to know the truth?

i am left wondering
if you are nothing
but empty promises,
empty words, no action.
i wonder
if when i see you again
if i will see my old friend
or the eyes of a stranger.

Have we not all said this?

The liar doesn't even have to hide behind a smile anymore, so how do we know the truth? The power of this poem is that we have all faced this question, but never have we expressed it so simply and so well.

I could

feel the bleak resignation of these words. Beautifully written and direct in its message. Great work. Thank you. LJ
