I have only ever wanted
The liittle, inconsequential
Entirety of your existence
In my world…

It was too much to ask, wasn’t it?

It was spontaneous, a surprise after all
After all this time of skirting around
Of keeping our distance from
Setting the boundaries
Throwiing our own dalliances
As a reminder that it could not be an us
To keep the innocence
To keep the friendship…

This is only hindsight
This reflection because before this
It was not an issue
After this, let it not be an issue!

But in a moment of weakness
A moment of desperation,
No, not desperate,
A moment of need, yes,
Needing to connect
We crossed that line
Several times.

Can you still be my soft place to fall
If you are partly the reason why
I am falling, drowning, gasping for air?
Can I separate, like you apparently can,
The wonder of THE MISTAKE?
I confess, I let myself dream and float
and get carried away
but you closed yourself off.

Not as soft as you once were for me.

I am ever more soft for you now.

Don’t let me fall again.
