But having it gone was an adjustment. She didn't regret it at all. She actually smiled when she reached for something, or when she reached for one of her children and noticed its absence. It being gone was a reminder that she still had the most important things in her life. Linda was thankful that Jim and she had come through the fire and were getting back on track. The counselor they were seeing every other week was really helping them come to terms with their new reality.
She caught Jim looking at her hand from time to time, but she made a point of kissing him or hugging him every time he did. She was never going to let him forget that she was his.
