...or maybe it's deliberate. As an editor, Karen tells him not to over-write, and he dutifully reworks his novel to become (presumably) a best-seller. Meanwhile the story itself groans under the weight of every possible cliché short of "It was a dark and stormy night!"
I liked it, really, but please tell me it WAS all deliberate!
Nice story. However, the initial confusion over Frank's name would not have happened. Women normally spell the name Frances. Karen would have known that Francis was male.
